A New Englander by birth, Dahlov Ipcar (1917-2018) was introduced to Maine by her parents William and Marguerite Zorach, who started summering at Robinhood Cove in Georgetown in 1923. Ipcar, whose first solo show took place at the Museum of Modern Art when she was 21, has gained wide recognition through her marvelous paintings and murals of jungle and farm animals, her pioneering work in soft sculpture and the many children’s books she has illustrated. « My drives have all been creative ones, » states the artist. In this film portrait, we visit Ipcar’s home and studio to experience first hand the life and art of a Maine master.
